Birds use the Earth🌎magnetic field for their astonishing orientation🧭tasks during migration. But how can they sense it? Identifying the primary magnetosensor remains a fundamental open question. Amazing work by Corinna Langebrake investigating this within an evolutionary framework

Very proud to finally see this article published, great collaboration with the group of Christoph Lienau, hopefully more interesting studies to come in the future! (foreshadowing...?!)

Crowds at heavy metal shows can be modeled using basic physics principles.

They fall into two types: gas-like mosh pits or ordered vortex circle pits. Crowd rotation is almost always counterclockwise, no matter where the concert. Maybe due to handedness? sethna.lassp.cornell.edu/pubPDF/MoshPit…

Yeah, getting a Nature publication is cool, but have your supervisor's son ever portraited you during a meeting?

A great colleague of mine (Dr. James McLaren) has written an excellent blog entry on bird navigation and the studies that he (and by extension I and the rest of SFB 1372) is doing to try and unveil the current questions in the field of animal navigation!

Seems like I got caught up with work yesterday and forgot to tweet, but here we go again:
This May a book was released on the subject of Dynamics of Systems on the Nanoscale where I together with 2 other QuantBio Group members contributed a chapter!
