I think the plans we have at the Religious Education Council for this Worldview project are really exciting. It's going to be great working with so many fabulous people to seek a shared set of understandings of how the concept is & might be used in RE.

I've finished @MarkChater1's "Reforming RE: Power & Knowledge in a Worldviews Curriculum". It's a great book, bringing together some of RE's leading thinkers. I am delighted to see such quality of reflection on driving forward the vital reforms that Commission on RE called for.

Great virtual Religious Education Council education committee. Discussed promoting thevision of the Commission on RE as well as how to support teachers during Covid-19. We were also joined today by blackbirds, seagulls and a cat!! Chairing the meeting was great fun!!!

@Ben_Wood_RE Miss What might be gained? A single (ideally statutory) point of reference (be it a nat syllabus or the Commission on RE Nat Entitlement) would make it easier to deal with the prob of schools not teaching RE at all (800k pupils missing out every yr according to REC & NATRE). #REchatUK

@Ben_Wood_RE Commission on RE Broadly, yes. When Commission on RE took evidence from people from across the RE world I think they were surprised by how much agreement there was about the purpose of the subject. Their National Entitlement tries to capture the broad agreement. #REchatUK

But there were also powerful vested interests that were concerned that their own power would be diminished by exploring worldviews in the context of historicity, power, individual interpretation. #REchatUK

It's my last day working at the Religious Education Council. I've had a fantastic 5 & a half years there. It's been a privilege to be Chief Exec & work with so many great people across the RE world. I'm in awe of all the teachers, advisors, SACRE members, resource providers, teacher trainers...
