Many athletes work according to their feelings. If they are a little tired, sore or just don’t feel like it, they find excuses to skip it. The truly committed work based on principles! Excuses aren’t part of their vocabulary. When you’re fueled by passion you rarely make excuses!

Leadership doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be real. It’s not about what it looks like. It’s about caring for those you lead, putting your people first, giving credit to others for successes, but standing up in the face of mistakes. Take care of people, not appearances.

One of sports’ most valuable lessons: hard work doesn’t always result in the desired outcome. Even if you put in the time & effort to have earned it, “earned” is more often performance & production driven. Keep working. You not only have to do it, but you also have to do it well!

People with “natural” talent aren’t the only ones who succeed. More important than natural talent is the will to overcome adversity, discipline to keep pushing boundaries & a relentless drive to be better than you were yesterday. Showing up & giving your all. That’s what matters!

Life lessons learned in sports cannot be taught in any textbook. Sportsmanship, passion, responsibility, putting others first, being unselfish, giving 100% to what you love. That’s learned through experience. There’s no better way to build that experience than through sports!

Players, next season will hold you accountable for how you spend your time this off-season. Understand that wasting time this summer can cause lack of playing time & confidence next season. Now is time to get better! Educate yourselves on how to do that. It must be intentional!
