I still can’t quite wrap my head around the fact that the NHS has greenlit people with a 2 year degree seeing undifferentiated patients in the community. This is going to be a massive retrospective scandal in a decade.

Phil Whitaker Prof Colin R Melville GMC Please listen. Current survey asking wrong Q’s. Unless working to scope guidance akin BMA’s, MAPs are bad for patient safety &worsen efficiency. Assistant OK. Assoc not. We have enough dodgy Drs & need to raise vs lower standards of care. x.com/drstevetaylor/…

There is NO situation in which a 1st year doctor should earn less than a 1st year physician associate (assistant)!

We are in the unbelievable situation where the doctor supervising the PA earns less than the PA.

Truly beyond the looking glass

There are more placeholders than ever before.

Trusts must create new jobs and not just rely on people pulling out/failing. Otherwise the commitment to give us all an FY job will not be met.

Department of Health and Social Care NHS England must step in and provide support to allow this to happen.

This is interesting...

PAs don't actually have to be supervised by doctors at all times, according to the GMC.

Any old 'healthcare professional' will do.

It’s almost like GMC are making it up as they go along in desperate sophistry to make a political imperative to undermine doctors and provide ‘medical professionals’ on the cheap with totally inadequate training. Physician assistants yes, associates no.

Firstly PA scope is not clear and they are being asked to do wild things

Then we see those who have not passed the PAMVR working as PAs

Now we see those suspended from the PAMVR working as PAs.

This is insane

The GMC was created to prevent non-doctors pretending to be doctors and causing harm to the public.

In 2024, the GMC wants to regulate non-doctors who pretend to be doctors after a ludicrously easily 2 year unaccredited course.

Hope they are ready for the future Inquiry.

In episode number 'I've lost bloody count now'

I reiterate - if you are more pissed off about the fact that someone found this information, rather than the fact that this is even possible, you remain the problem.

And PAs like this 👇 are a huge issue!

In 30 years (doubt I will be around to see it!) there will be apologies and “lessons learned” about allowing unqualified unregulated assistants to act autonomously as GPs and surgeons on an unsuspecting public too.

Astonishing thread about a company worth literally nothing before the pandemic, yet which magically made £4.5 billion (yes, with a 'B'!) off of the Tory government after a VIP back door approach...

The biggest VIP lane winner of the pandemic was a company called Innova. Good Law Project has seen a cache of documents from US courts about its 🤯 affairs. 🧵

Truly is incredible that GMC should have the cheek to put out such a consultation….with no intention of defining scope 🤪

Called GP surgery for 8 year old, told them symptoms ,sent photo, said what I tried already & not better.. told needs appt within 1 week. Got there & seen by a PA who said will discuss with a GP & get back. The system is flawed! Waste of resources &time + PA’s shouldnt see kids!

The consultation failed to address the most immediate & important issues around PAs/AAs.

It will largely be a rubber stamping exercise despite no agreement from Doctors & the public that the GMC is the right place for regulation.

Govt/GMC/NHSE leadership is failing the public.

Robert Peston Wait till you hear about the in the NHS. Grads from any 2:2 degree doing a 2 year 100% pass rate course & walking into seeing kids, vulnerable patients, undertaking surgical procedures with no further quals needed. Simultaneously we have fully qualified unemployed drs.
