We’re in Canton this morning bringing you the latest in storm coverage. Town officials tell me they are closely monitoring the Pigeon river for flooding as we get through the week.

*URGENT MESSAGE* This will be one of the most significant weather events to happen in the western portions of the area in the modern era. Record flooding is forecasted and has been compared to the floods of 1916 in the Asheville area.

Spoke with several evacuees in Canton yesterday along Asheville HWY that had to evacuate due to flooding, one resident told me he doesn’t have any plans in place after evacuating. It’s a terrible reality a lot of people in western Carolina are currently facing.

This was how backed up roads were on 26 heading into east flat rock around 7 this morning. I was able to leave Asheville and head to Charlotte taking 26 going the direction to Hendersonville with minimal issue. Not sure what road conditions look like now

A common scene across Boone today as residents clean out their homes from the flood damage, one resident told me his home got up to 4ft of water. A lot of these homes he says are unsafe to live in.
