It’s going to be fascinating to watch New Yorkers who moved to specific school zones for their children be redirected to other schools as this moves forward.

The rubber is about to hit the road with the next admissions cycle. And it’s going to be yet another painful “surprise” for families

Elected officials in central/NE Queens should know already that reducing admissions to zoned schools is NOT going to end well if there’s no real engagement from public school families. John C. Liu SenatorJoeAddabbo Andrew Hevesi Leroy Comrie Nily Rozic 李羅莎 Ed Braunstein Jeffrion Aubry

Unlike the UFT, we hope NYC Public Schools recognizes that shuffling children around with additional unfunded busing and long commutes for children is not a viable option in their toolkit of solutions to meet the Class Size Law.

Over 70% of classrooms in Queens & SI do not meet Class Size Law limits. A majority of Brooklyn & Manhattan classrooms also do not comply. Without significant construction underway (which it isn't), reality is NYC Public Schools won't meet the law unless they get more time. #FixTheLaw

Small Class Size Law How it started: sound basic education, equity, better outcomes What it’s become: bussing kids to under-enrolled schools, redistribute funding to wealthier districts, remote “learning” #AmendTheLaw John C. Liu ClassSizeEquity chalkbeat.org/newyork/2024/0…

If you thought that the Small Class Size won’t affect your child because they’re already enrolled in high school, think again. The inflexibility of the law has the potential to cut important programs for all students. John C. Liu #FixTheFlaws

Small class size sounds great but it’s not the panacea the John C. Liu Robert Jackson UFT Class Size Matters leonie haimson claim it to be. There’s plenty of examples within NYC Public Schools that already meet the mandate where a vast majority of students are not meeting grade level work

This reaction from the private school parent who forced through the Small Class Size Law by any means necessary is epitome of tone deafness. We warned of unintended consequences but you ignored the parents who have skin in the game.

We predicted this. Unfortunately, teacher union shills refuse to admit reality 😞 “New York City’s highest-poverty schools could experience an exodus of teachers in the coming years, an unintended consequence of a sweeping class size mandate, according to a new report.”

Maybe it’s time to admit John C. Liu Robert Jackson Class Size Matters’s Small Class Size Law is failing to incentivize families to stay. Families care about school & teacher quality, not costly mandates that could shuffle children around. #QualityNotQuantity
