Excited to announce our Nature Reviews Earth & Environment 🌈 review synthesizing plant responses to fewer, larger rain events across field studies, models, and satellites. We focus on plant responses and mechanisms in the context of the contrasting behavior between dry and wet ecosystems.
Excited to share this paper co-authored with Dan Stern Cardinale on Fisher's fundamental theorem of natural selection: 'Back to the fundamentals: A reply to Basener & Sanford 2018'. The saga of how this paper came to be is pretty wild.

Excited to share this research which was just published in Ecology Letters! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/el…
We use theoretical and experimental analysis to show how an overlooked mechanism of competition in plant communities, 'competition for time,' can support high biodiversity.
Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Trapping 12 theoreticians + weekly guest empiricists on an island is uniquely effective to do science :) Cannot thank Lisa McManus Joan Roughgarden enough for organizing this workshop. I learned so much from everyone!
just out in Ecological Monographs: doi.org/10.1002/ecm.16… expertly led by Chris Jones and Karo Wiesner. Better understand properties of ecological networks and predict secondary predictions based on analytical framework
My co-authors Marie-Josee Fortin, Marco Andrello, Marty Krkošek and I were invited by the Frontiers Planet Prize team to turn our award-winning study into Frontiers for Young Minds article for young readers called 'How the Spread of Young Coral Can Help Save Coral Reefs'.

Thrilled to receive 2024 the Michelson Philanthropies & Science Magazine Prize for Immunology. Thank you for recognizing the work of our team!!
Delighted to announce our new paper in Science Magazine. Chris Klausmeier | chrisklausmeier.bsky.social, Elena Litchman, and I show how power-law scaling at the micro (individual) level is translated by eco-evolutionary dynamics into power-law scaling at the macro (food-web) level 1/5

Created a google doc with links for postdoctoral fellowships in Ecology (focusing on fellowships open for internationals). The list is currently biased toward US institutes. I tried to include website links and deadlines wherever possible. Share widely!

I’ve been thinking about this for years so I’m excited to see this finally out in print! Led by the brilliant Hengxing Zou | 邹恒星 you can read more about the importance of differentiating between types of priority effect. Trends in Ecology & Evolution is cell.com/trends/ecology…
As an editor at Environmental Microbiology, I seek to strengthen communication between theoretical & quant ecology, evolutionary theory, biophysics theory ➡️ microbiology. I'm currently inviting perspectives on this interface, but if folks have an idea they'd like to pitch, get in touch!
