March Madness is the best branding lesson for data scientists

Prediction error? Just call your positive residuals “Cinderella stories”, negative residuals “upsets”

Voila! You don’t have a bad model but “exciting emerging narratives”

3 things Pete Soderling did at Data Council that every other conference must start doing immediately –

1/ Speaker office hours. Dedicated 45 min to chat instead of mobbing post-talk.

2/ Talk schedule in a Google doc. Always up to date, works everywhere.

3/ No vendor talks.

Fantastic episode on Apache Iceberg

Iceberg is one of the projects I’m currently most intrigued by before using

The fact that it can be explained so well in audio form speaks to the imminent logic and intuitiveness of its design (plus strong git parallels help!)

The smallest DuckDB SQL orchestrator on Earth.

yato is the smallest orchestrator on Earth to orchestrate SQL data transformations on top of DuckDB. You just give a folder with SQL queries and it guesses the DAG and runs the queries in the right order.
