With PHCs in Nigeria we can do more for health. HPRG shows how, by implementing a project, where PHCs are home to adolescents in need of sexual & reproductive health (SRH) services! Safe spaces for SRH is key!

We are happy to kickstart a week-long engagement with CHORUSUrbanHealth leads and partners from University of Leeds. HPRG project on urban health is scaling up health security for people living in slums in Nigeria. It’s another time to strengthen our science! Chinyere Mbachu
Health security of slum dwellers is threatened by the many unregulated informal health services operational in slums. Where we can’t crowd out the informal with formal, we can look to improving governance/delivery of the informal to be safe at least. CHORUSUrbanHealth Chinyere Mbachu
Over 3 years, our CHORUSUrbanHealth project has progressed through mapping health providers in slums like traditional practitioners, medicine vendors, etc., and linking them with viable primary health centres closest to the slums. Our evidence shows integration works!

HPRG & CHORUSUrbanHealth continue evidence translation strides. HPRG as a foremost health policy & systems research engine in West Africa will continue to strengthen the health space of governments using evidence.

Within the CHORUSUrbanHealth project are projects of innovation touching on key health areas - urban crimes and health, healthcare seeking affecting urban kids, and community responses to water, sanitation/hygiene. HPRG review progress on these projects.

Despite the advantages associated with holding a regular census, the last population census in Nigeria was in 2006… for 17 years, the country relies on population data estimates and projections… the implications on health planning are devastating! Quality research output is at the heart of our CHORUSUrbanHealth work on good health for slums. HPRG researchers on a retreat to make sense of field data for quality research outputs. It’s on us to influence health policies/progs using quality evidence. Chinyere Mbachu
Optimising services for sexual and reproductive health (SRH) for adolescents is top health agenda for Africa. HPRG researchers birth quality scientific outputs after tedious data collection. Goal is to facilitate trusted points for SRH services IDRC | CRDI Chinyere Mbachu
