Very sorry to announce that the current status quo requires the cancellation of the March 2020 edition of the Chicago Cytoskeleton Meeting as a precaution for good health to all the attendees.

Best put by our chair, Luisa Arispe, “change isn’t passive, it’s intentional, it requires purpose and perseverance”. CDB_NU fully supports #BLM and today we’re stepping away from science to reflect on how we can make meaningful changes to support this movement in STEM #ShutDownSTEM

Covid19 is tapping into some of the deepest fears of immigrants: to have loved ones fall sick or be in areas where they're likely to, and being helpless to do anything about it from far away. So I have no sympathy for 'not masking' rights. Show some freakin' compassion.

But I have a bunch of TOCs and canned searches from the 90s that go to my postdoc account which I can’t cancel because I don’t have access to account, but they’re still forwarded to me.

Advisors and international student offices, there is not much you can do right now BUT you can reach out to the students and postdocs in your charge, reach out to them, make sure they get the best advice, and that they know that you have their back.

I feel like being a Jr faculty is like being in a rowboat that’s taking on water. You must balance pumping out water (write grants) and rowing the boat (do science). Find the right balance or you’ll sink or won’t go fwd. 2020 took away an oar and up’d the rate of water intake.

The kinetochore issue of Essays in Biochem is out! Lots of great reviews, including one from my student Gisela Cairo Baza (she/her). And, my oocyte image taken while on sabbatical with Dr. Karen Schindler was chosen for the cover! portlandpress.com/essaysbiochem/…
