Tara VanDerveer says the time is right to retire and that it has nothing to do with the move to the ACC. Said that was actually a reason to stay. 'Sometimes you just feel like you're ready. I'm ready.'

I've always appreciated Tara for being 100% herself. Showing up to her final presser with six pages of remarks typed, front and back, is 100% Tara. No other way to go out.

A year and a half ago, I visited Tara VanDerveer at her cabin in Northern Minnesota.

In 2015, she thought she might retire. But that cabin and that lake kept her in coaching almost another decade.

Tara VanDerveer, the winningest head coach in NCAA history, announced her retirement after 38 seasons at Stanford.

In 45 years as a head coach, VanDerveer amassed a record 1,216 victories.

South Carolina’s win over Iowa was seen by an astonishing 18.7 million viewers and peaked at 24.7 million.

That’s an 89 percent increase from the 2023 title game and a 285 percent increase from 2022.
