MUSICIAN-IN-RESIDENCE APPRECIATION POST! 🎶 Our 19 talented musicians go into prisons, young offender institutions & alternative provision schools every day of the week. They provide a consistent presence for participants, tailoring sessions to individual needs & potential.

Our Musicians-in-Residence have been working hard to submit participant recordings to the annual Koestler Arts awards 🎶 We're excited to receive the results in September, but in the meantime, you can listen to one of last year's highly commended songs: changingtunes.org.uk/music-and-films

Launched in 2021, Young Voices is our music programme for young people at risk of entering the prison system. We recently appointed a new Project Lead for this important aspect of our work, as we aim to develop more intervention & prevention activities over the next few years 🎵

Our weekly women's post-release group is now established in #Bristol . Participants have been working on covers & writing their own songs. The safe space provides an outlet to process emotions associated with the challenging transitional period between prison and life outside.

We currently have four post-release hubs in Birmingham, Bristol, Exeter & Portsmouth. We're committed to expanding this aspect of our work, providing ongoing support, and playing a vital role in participants' journeys to build crime-free lives that are meaningful and creative 🎵

Our 'Tuning In' project at HMP Eastwood Park facilitates therapeutic songwriting sessions, creating a supportive community for women to express & process their feelings about being a mum in prison. We have supported women to write 13 songs for their children. #MothersDay2024

We're highlighting our work with women this week, in the run-up to #InternationalWomensDay ! Our four wonderful female Musicians-in-Residence have worked with over 60 women at HMP Eastwood Park & HMP Drake Hall in the past year, with 270 music sessions and 7 performances 👏🎵

It's #PrisonMusicWeek 🎵 We are delivering sessions every day, alongside Beating Time Finding Rhythms Sing Inside Irene Taylor Trust & Prison Choir Project. We're proud to be part of a fantastic group of organisations providing high quality music provision in prisons across the country.
