It’s been a great week to start deployments of carbon fibre stereo BRUVs from Meeuwig lab @ExeterMarine that will allow us to not only determine species abundance and diversity but also accurately measure the size of species seen on camera 🦈 🐠 🦞 🦭

A #smallspottedcatshark resting on the seabed. Often called #dogfish however they belong to the order Carcharhiniformes (Ground Sharks) & not Squaliformes (Dogfish Sharks)! #Sharks are split into 9 different orders depending on their morphological & molecular traits.

I’m so excited to have submitted my masters thesis! Working with the Isles of Scilly IFCA, we used #bruvs to gather community composition data of the mobile fauna in the #rockyreefs. This work is part of an effort to establish long term #monitoring and #management of the Isles of Scilly SAC.
