It's beautiful but bracing out and about on the peatlands of Cornwall, Exmoor and Dartmoor this week. We carry out practical peatland restoration during the winter to avoid ground nesting birds, so a frost, ice and light scattering of snow are part and parcel of works.

How we mitigate our impact on birds nesting 🐤 SWPP practical works out on the moors & mires are specifically scheduled to avoid the breeding bird season - March to August to limit the risk of us or disturbing ground nesting birds. But this isn't a hard and fast rule. [cont]

🚫The enemy of the peatland restoration officer are certainly out and about....don't forget to do a check for ticks when on your walks on the moorlands of the South West.

Before vs After. Here's an area of March restoration works on Bodmin Moor looking incredible this week. You can see that *so much water* is being held back and slowed down in the landscape. The comparison with the dry, scrubby, eroding environment from before is clear.
