Our Nature Primer "Podocytopathies" is out! A shift in paradigm from patient stratification based on kidney biopsy findings towards personalized management based on clinical, morphological and genetic data is needed for these patients! nature.com/articles/s4157…

Happy that Science selected our study on AKI and kidney tumour for the Kidney Update 2020 together with the beautiful studies of Katalin Susztak and Alexander Staruschenko!!!! sciencemag.org/collections/ki…

What is a crescent? An abnormal response of renal progenitors while trying to replace lost podocytes. Our new study shows reversal of crescents into podocytes is anyway possible and changes disease outcome science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

A new study from our group demonstrates that tubular cell polyploidy protects from lethal AKI but promotes consequent CKD. Just published in Nature Communications nature.com/articles/s4146…

Our new study is out! By STED microscopy on kidney biopsy and ELISA assays we show 1/3 of pediatric and half of adult patients (more in primary FSGS) have autoantibodies against slit antigens different from nephrin. i.e. anti-slit Abs kidney-international.org/action/showPdf…

Look how much more important is to know if a patient is genetic or has anti-slit antibodies than if has MCD or FSGS at kidney biopsy. We have finally come to the era of autoimmune, genetic and adaptive podocytopathies. No more MCD or FSGS used as diagnosis!

Our new study in Science is out! CKD progresses slower in females. 🔹Estrogens boost female renal progenitors to produce new podocytes for pregnancy adaptation. 🔹Loss of this mechanism causes preeclampsia, maternal CKD risk & fewer nephrons in offspring. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
