It's grey, chilly for end of April in S of F. I worked at my desk all day until an hour ago; we went for a walk through tall wildflowers growing on the terraces, to pick sweet oranges. Everywhere was damp but there are SO many colours in the flowers that it was rather wonderful.

It's pretty chilly here on French Riviera this matin. I might need a sweater and woolly bathing suit for swimming!

It was splendid today to be sitting in the sunshine by the sea in Italy, eating fresh fish, watching the greedy gulls and the sailboats out on the water. We bought masses at the veg and fruit market in Ventimiglia and now we are home, happy and replete.

“Reading Cavafy for the first time I saw the infinity I knew about, an immense vista of silence between one line and the next: eros was that interval, not the action of the sentence. Or perhaps…I responded to the atmosphere of fated submission.”

– Louise Glück, born 1943

Today the sun is shining after more heavy rain yesterday. The trees are shooting skywards full of vitality and the grass with its myriad wildflowers reaches up to my shoulders. I feel like a small child walking through it. It's rather wonderful if a bit damp.

A planet threatened by climate change, by pollution, by biodiversity loss.

A planet that needs to be rescued.
