I spent yesterday at a 'farm' in Hampshire. It rained, the sun shone, clouds loured, the sky brightened. A British spring.
As we drove the lanes and I stared out the car window I passed through an England I have not visited for decades.

I'm in England for today, at Heathrow waiting to be picked and then later delivered back to catch plane home. Feel as though I have stepped into a capsule. Outside my hotel room window is a tree in new leaf and two of the fattest wood pigeons I have ever seen. Real life out there

The Jasmine is going bonkers. This is just one plant. The scent is making me drunk. I might as well sit out on the terrace in the sunshine, breathe in and sip a glass of white wine.

It is SO warm here, fabulous if over the top for April. The land, so full of colours, has gone balmy. Dandelion plants height of my shoulder. Everywhere is buzzing and calling. I am not sure how we are going to cut all this back. We are living in a bright-green-foliaged jungle.

It reached 29C around Lyon on our long drive home yesterday. We reached the farm at 11.30pm. This morning we wake to grass so high we can hardly see anything on the land, but, oh, the scent of Jasmine and Rose and the last of the wisteria.

On our pilgrimage south, we have reached Beaune where it 27C. Such a pity to be travelling and not sitting in the garden with a chilled glass of wine.

I spent the whole afternoon cleaning windows. Why? So that I can see the farmers' work.

Editorial meeting this morning. First one with my lovely new ed. Still, feeling a bit nervous.

I've worked all day & just been out for a walk on the land in evening light. Standing beneath blossoming cherry & apple trees, looking for the newly-arrived swallows. A gentle evening reminding me at 8 pm that the longest day will soon be approaching. It all seems to turn so fast
