When you consider recent developments re: life up here on Connecticut Avenue… this feels a taaaaaaad ironic.

Absolutely. From following Carly on insta, I know just enough about her cute boyfriend (whose name I can't remember) and her brief foray into sugar detox to feel warmly toward her while I await a new album announcement

This headline sounds bad enough and then you find out that this bill is the brainchild of a Smoothie King magnate who thinks his kid employees hate having lunch breaks

What people don’t get is that being an “exception” to an abortion ban—because you got terrible news about your fetus, or you were raped, or you got cancer, etc—doesn’t mean you get an abortion. It means you’ve been invited to beg.

It’s Taxation without Representation day in the District but you can give to DC Abortion Fund now since we are prohibited from spending our local tax dollars on abortion care for our residents  fund.nnaf.org/fundraiser/535…

Defund it. Council shouldn't spend money on safety improvements that don't make the street meaningfully safer and don't reduce car trips.

The mayor's proposals to increase the sales tax combined with the backtrack on the EITC would raise the effective tax rate on DC’s residents with the lowest incomes.

Tell lawmakers that you support a bit.ly/peoplestaxplan

‘Early education is a job we do from the heart, not for our pockets. And we have been patient with our pay but if our pay is cut, we won’t be patient anymore and DC’s classrooms will be empty.’

Mayor Muriel Bowser Council of DC & DC CFO you’re on notice to restore the Pay Equity Fund!

None of this is normal, by the way. People from the South (or anywhere else) shouldn’t have to travel to get abortions. They shouldn’t have to find back doors to abortion pills. Abortion should be available in all of our communities. We can’t get cede this ground.

D.C. has been doing arguably the best work of any jurisdiction *in the nation* at creating a child care system that works well for families, kids, and early educators. To torpedo the Pay Equity Fund which now undergirds that progress would be public policy malpractice.

Billionaires get money from the government = investment, revitalization
Working DC residents get money from the government = abuse, overreliance

She had options but chose to target early educators, working families with low incomes, wealth-building for poor kids, eviction prevention svcs, and all with low and mod incomes via sales tax. That's not shared sacrifice.

.Mayor Muriel Bowser's proposed FY25 budget decimates the sector with massive, multi-year cuts to subsidies for families, and permanently eliminates the Early Childhood Educator Pay Equity Fund and HealthCare4ChildCare. Read our statement: under3dc.org/mayor-bowsers-…

The budget from Mayor Muriel Bowser would be catastrophic for DC families.

It guts child care, early childhood educator pay, DCPS teachers, rent relief, legal aid, violence prevention, victim services, Baby Bonds, DC's Earned Income Tax Credit and SNAP food assistance.

Unconscionable.
