Coming up in Part Two:

•Big Help Project was paid millions by property developers – where did the money go?

•And The Post obtains a secret recording of Mitchell in a business meeting. His biggest fear? That he will “wake up one morning and hear a bomb has gone off”.

I've joined the Libreal Democrats.

They are far more progressive and left-wing than Starmers Labour Party.

Plus, the LibDems support:

•Proportional representation✅️
• A written constitution✅️
• The legalisation of cannabis✅️
• An elected Second Chamber✅️

It's been nine months since I began looking into Big Help Project, a charity run by ex-Labour councillor Peter Mitchell.

The growth of the charity has been eye watering. Between 2018 and 2022, its annual income rose from just over £400,000 to almost £16m.

I met this amazing young man when I visited All Saints Foodbank. He’s doing a sponsored walk to raise awareness of everything that foodbanks do.

Most seriously, we have spoken to tenants in the housing that Big Help provides. Their experiences suggest a group that has prioritised breakneck growth over the wellbeing of the people in its care, leaving them to suffer in poor accommodation.

Spent nine months working on this one for The Post - Part Two coming on Wednesday.

Former Labour councillor Peter Mitchell runs a charity that claims to bring in £15m a year. But there’s plenty that doesn’t make sense about Big Help Project

An anti-poverty charity in Liverpool run by a temperamental former Labour councillor jumps from £900k income to £9m. What's going on?

Phenomenal investigation by my colleague Abi Whistance for The Post. Perplexing and heartbreaking in equal measure.

A great initial expose by Abi Whistance and The Post. I look forward to more of this coming to light and any Labour Councillors involved stepping down in shame

I wrote earlier this year that Liverpool Council was wrong to refuse to reveal the name of two councillors summoned to court over the non-payment of council tax

I’m glad the Information Commissioner agrees with me 👇

Out delivering for Liverpool Liberal Democrats today, before the torrential came from nowhere (or the sky before anyone gets cute 👀🤣).

If there’s any one reason to join a political party, aside from the obvious, it’s to be getting those steps in. 🏃🏻‍♂️💨
