Ovechkin has displayed remarkable consistency throughout his career, posting nearly identical goals-per-game and points-per-games rates from ages 35-39 as ages 25-29.

In his age 39 season, Ovechkin scored 44 goals in 65 games to surpass Wayne Gretzky as the NHL’s all-time goals leader. Ovechkin’s 44 goals ranked tied for third in the NHL and were tied for the most in a season by a player age 39 or older (Gordie Howe: 44g in 1968-69).
