The newly-released Chinese Exclusion Act records from Library and Archives Canada list 65 people of Chinese origin in Hastings County. They include Chin Chai, a laundryman from Madoc. The records are now available on Ancestry and FamilySearch.

Taken 150 years ago today, we believe this young woman was Mary (Minnie) McKay, born in Belleville in 1856 to cabinet maker John McKay and Lydia (Bedell). She married a barrister named Thomas Dixon and moved to Walkerton, where she died in 1930. flickr.com/photos/cabhc/4…
