#BCWildfire Service is currently responding to the Truax Creek wildfire (K70302) located ~12 km NE of Gold Bridge. This wildfire is now estimated at 50 hectares in size.

It was fun to be on the field yesterday and try to play soccer with these young athletes. They enjoyed playing with Premier @dave_eby and some of my #Surrey colleagues. 

A big thank you to Surrey Football Club’s staff and parent volunteers for doing such a great job.

People in BC have been taking action to prevent wildfires when camping - and it's working! In recent years, there have been fewer wildfires caused by campfires. Check local conditions before you head out on the BC Wildfire Service app or at BCWildFire.ca

Grateful to the BC Wildfire Service and local firefighters responding to the wildfires near Fort Nelson. Air assets are supporting. All doing heroic work to protect people and property.

Earlier today I spoke at Richmond Plywood’s unveiling of state of the art additions to their plant. 

Our gov’t is providing $2.3 million from the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund for the company to enhance its value-added production, and add more jobs to its 400 strong workforce.

Today, I introduced the updated BC Wildfire Service app as part of our seasonal hazards update. I encourage everyone to download the app for the most up-to-date information on wildfires, burn restrictions, evacuation alerts, road conditions and more.

My heart goes out to the workers, families and communities that will be devastated by this news. We will do everything we can to support people who are impacted.

I’m very disappointed in Canfor’s decision to close one line of the Northwood pulp mill in Prince George, the Polar Mill (70 km north of PG) in Bear Lake and back out of their investment in Houston. (1/2)

In order to prevent wildfires caused by Category 3 open burning and to protect public safety, effective at 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Friday, May 17, 2024, Category 3 open burning will be prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre.

This past Saturday, Iqra Islamic School in my riding staged a popular family fair as part of Eid celebrations.

Consul General Mohd Afandi Abu Bakar of Malaysia hosted an open house on Sunday featuring delicious Malaysian cuisine to celebrate Eid Many members of Malaysian diaspora joined the well received event.

Yesterday the Kerala Cultural Association of BC marked its 35th anniversary and celebrated Eid, Easter, and Vishu in one unified event. Congratulations to President Litty George and her leadership group.

Today I visited Masjid Umar Bin Khattab in the riding and spoke with community members. I had an insightful conversation with Zamarai Aziz (VP), Hamed Tahmas (Chair, Afghan Youth Committee), and Karim Nastoh (President, Afghan Society) about the Afghan community here in Surrey!
