Meanwhile in Europe: the Impossible Burger is still 100% illegal. Thank you, anti-GMO people, for protecting us from sustainable, humane and delicious plant-based burgers. 🙃

Optimism explains space colonization—humans will create a utopia. It explains why people eat factory farmed meat—cultivated is just a few years away. It explains why we can emit as much as we want—nuclear will save us. I know it feels good, but we need less optimism, not more.

Oh no! Sound the alarm! What will trillions upon trillions of animals do with their lives if humans aren’t around to torture them?! A true travesty waiting to happen. 😂

So much rhetoric about how we should be afraid of AI. But if robots can ever fear, they should fear humans. the-sun.com/tech/14154197/…

My fave acknowledgement in a paper is by Francesca Minerva. “The author would like to thank all the men who broke her heart for giving her food for thought and inspiration for this paper. However… she would have been even more grateful to them if they had made her happy instead.”

A brain on the carnivore diet. Yikes. I am eating an extra serving of walnuts and blueberries tomorrow. This would be a good advertisement for eating more vegan food.

SpaceX flubbed yet another rocket launch. Elon Musk may be bummed, but given all the problems here on Earth (war, poverty, factory farming, etc.) it’s for the best that humankind isn’t getting any closer to colonizing space. My latest for Fast Company. fastcompany.com/91344954/elon-…

Factory farming is the greatest moral atrocity of our time, and most people have their fingers in their airs humming lalalalala

Almond crusted onion rings. I try to eat the same foods I’ve always loved while continuing to cut back on animal products. I made these w/ a simple vegan batter of flour & soy milk. I add cumin, coriander, & clove to the usual seasonings to give them a unique & smoky flavor.

The second bird I aided this summer by facilitating the end of their life. Wild animal suffering sucks and it is all around us - the scale is massive. We must explore ways to intervene on their behalf.

“All this suggests that persuading individuals to eat less meat — a goal that many… have largely given up on — might not be as hopeless as previously thought.” I’m not optimistic, but I’m still hopeful! There a chance! Not giving up! H/T Kenny Torrella vox.com/future-perfect…

I am against switchitarianism, & I encourage you to be too. Creating more suffering by switching from beef to chickens is just silly. The entire reason climate change is a problem is because of the suffering it generates. Eat more plants, & either way, drop the moral gymnastics.

Happy publication day to Michael Grunwald! I’m looking forward to reading the book. I’m sure it’ll have lots I agree with and lots I disagree with, and everything within I’ll find interesting. This is exactly the kind of book worth spending time with. Check it out.

I was very impressed with the new Superman movie, specifically his caring for wild animals. I hope humans learn from this great hero. variety.com/2025/film/news…

It’s one thing to torture trillions of animals on factory farms. It’s another to ignore it is happening. I hope digital minds don’t come to exist because I expect humans will torture them. But if they do, an AI takeover is probably our best bet for a non-hellscape world.
