We have seen a couple of these recently (South Pennines - upland rural habitat).
Any idea whose egg this is - and which predator has stolen it (fox, badger, magpie …)?⁦

There's still time to join the PoMS 1 km square trapping survey, if you live near to a red square on the map. Info at ukpoms.org.uk/one-km-square-… & drop us a line for more details if interested. Thanks to our fantastic volunteers who are visiting all the blue squares this month!

On the pollinator front:
I also saw an orange tip butterfly, loads of St Marks flies and a bumblebee flew past 🤣

Perfect weather today for a UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme on the Dandelions. Not much on the wing except for this Ashy mining bee (FIT category ‘solitary bee’) busily looking for a nest site nearby

Fabulous day to be out in the South Pennines - home of the ‘Pennine Finch’ or Twite.
Sadly no Twite but Curlew calling and Skylark singing 😊 ⁦Farm Wildlife⁩ ⁦RSPB

Huge win for our seabirds!

All Scottish waters and the English North Sea are now CLOSED to industrial sandeel trawling.

That means more fish for seabird beaks.

After a quarter century of campaigning, we're delighted GOV.UK and Scottish Government have put these closures in place.

27: Curlew. Their arrival back on breeding grounds is probably the most significant signal of spring in our uplands and lowland wet grasslands🧵

25: Lapwing. It is wise to be on the lookout for Lapwing nests during any agricultural operations from mid-March onwards, as this is one of the earliest ground-nesting birds to start🧵

It's a joy to see repair cafes pop up all over the UK, but it's a losing battle. The tide of 'easy-to-break, hopeless-to-mend' stuff never ends.

Next week, Parliament considers a 'right to repair'. All parties should rally in support to save people money & save our environment.
