The number of dairy cow herds where infection has been detected has increased to 20, in 6 states. It was 17 yesterday.
Breakdown is: Texas, 9; NM, 4; Kansas, 3; Mich, 2; Idaho & Ohio, 1 each.

1. Short update: The -like illness season is drawing to a close. The percentage of folks seeking care for ILIs in the wk ending 3/30 was just a hair over the season baseline. Interestingly the season is ending around the time seasons pre-Covid ended. (red circle)

The number of states reporting H5N1 bird flu outbreaks in cows is now 6. According to USDA, outbreaks have been detected in 15 herds: Texas (7), Kansas (3), New Mexico (2), Idaho, Michigan & Ohio (new) with 1 each.
Still a single confirmed human case.

This trend will continue given:
1) global travel patterns, &
2) a global surge in cases.

The measles vaccine is safe, free, widely available & very effective.

Some may have missed a dose during the pandemic. Catch-up campaigns are underway.
