If you have not yet heard Katie Chubb’s story, you need to. With one of the worst infant mortality rates in the nation, Augusta has a critical need for more birthing centers. #CON laws have prevented these services from being offered to women of Augusta. This needs to change.

Yesterday a US scientist advises putting salt in tea, then the US Embassy suggests using a microwave to heat it. A bad day for special relations. What will America recommend today, we wonder? Onions in a bowl of cereal? Mustard on Jaffa Cakes?

I can tell you stories about why Albany, GA has only one hospital now, rather than the two we had, and they all revolve around the certificate of need system. Now, there's no competition for most of our healthcare needs and we're supposed to be glad for this? No, end CON now!

CON affects so many, and HB1339 as passed by the Senate would allow Katie Chubb, and other professionals like her, to give moms-to-be more options on where and how they bring their babies into this world.  Any compromise legislation must #EndTheCON for freestanding birth

After much study and debate, both chambers have passed a bill that will end CON for several categories of service—including free standing birth centers. I hope in another year Augusta Birth Center and many other providers will be on their way to opening and serving Georgians in need.

The bill doesn’t go as far as I or many would like, but this is a day to celebrate. We’ll continue to educate Georgians and support legislative champions so we can one day fully #EndTheCon . Cheers to freedom y’all🥂
