Robert Jenrick says “There’s no prizes for being the first country in the world to decarbonize.” The first country to decarbonise will sell low carbon technologies to the world and benefit early from cheaper energy, more jobs and energy security. Jenrick couldn’t be more wrong.

Britain was first in the Industrial Revolution. It’s why our economy was so strong. Our economy can benefit from being a leader in decarbonisation too if government and industry work together.

I was in Carmarthenshire today to see how Great British Energy can lower bills, create good jobs, and power homes right across the country.

Today’s figures show Sunak and Hunt left behind higher than expected borrowing. A £22bn black hole in the public finances, 14 years of economic stagnation and public debt at its highest since the 1960s. That’s the reality of Tory failure that Labour now has to fix.
