BREAKING: Legendary film and stage actress Cicely Tyson has died, her family announced. She was 96.

What struck me every time I spent time with Cicely Tyson was not necessarily her star power—though that was evident enough—it was her humanity. Just by walking into a room, she had this way of elevating everyone around her.

To survivors of any trauma who worry about being believed, or that their situation wasn’t “bad” enough or “too” bad, or fear being branded or deemed “manipulative” for telling the truth: I see you. Community is here for you. You are safe with me, & with all of us. You are loved!

When you can get the COVID-19 vaccine, I hope you do—Barack and I are certainly glad we did. It’s our best shot at beating this virus, looking out for one another, and getting back to some of the things we miss. Getting vaccinated will save lives—and that life could be yours.

Today, for the first time in the court's history, the Senate will consider an exceptionally qualified Black woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. 

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is Black excellence. She is a reminder that Black women belong everywhere decisions are made.
