Looking for a great documentary about the ocean? Check out Mission Blue (2014). This documentary by renowned oceanographer Sylvia Earle is a great watch. It follows Earle's campaign to protect marine life and save our oceans from overfishing, plastic waste and climate change.

Today we're celebrating @miss_elasmo -- was started by 4 BIPOC women who often felt alone and even unwelcome in marine and shark sciences. With MISS, they hope that no other woman of color has to feel this way in their field!

Meet Shellby Johson! 🖤 She's a marine conservationist, science communicator, and outreach and communications specialist at the NOAA. And recently, she's gotten into Ocean Exploration with Ocean Exploration Trust. Shellby has been doing great in her career so far!

We're highlighting and celebrating @official_bweems -- an amazing community led by Black women that elevates and supports Black women in Ecology, Evolution and Marine Science.

We're featuring Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson 🐙 🖤 a marine biologist and policy expert. She co-founded Urban Ocean Lab, a non-profit think tank for coastal cities, helped create climate initiative The All We Can Save Project and co-created the podcast How to Save a Planet.

Estimates are that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish (measured by weight). And that's why it's even more important than ever that we cut plastic out of our lives wherever we can.

This Black History Month, we want to highlight fellow Black ocean heroes! And we're celebrating Black in Marine Science -- they created a non-profit and grew a beautiful community of Black marine scientists to continue to highlight Black voices and encourage more diversity in the field.
