Number lines are more complicated to teach than I realized! Look at all the important things students have to try to remember…this is why anchor charts are SO essential.

Students mixing up area vs. perimeter? Reinforce this with the way you call them over to your mat/carpet. For sitting on the edge, ask them to sit on the perimeter of the mat/carpet. For sitting on the inside, ask them to sit in the area of the mat/carpet.

It breaks my heart when I hear elementary teachers shamefully tell me that they were "never good at math". If you never felt confident in math, you should know it’s a gift. Not only that, it will make you an anchor chart machine. beyondtraditionalmath.com/2023/01/30/5-t…

Students who set their own goals and get regular feedback on progress have higher levels of achievement in general, beyond only the goals they set (Hattie, 2009; Henderlong, et al., 2007). Here is a student goal setting sheet. Feel free to use. #LeadInclusion #education #edchat

Spend lots of time setting up expectations & structure at the start of the school year. Do this by solving problems together as a class. If their solution doesn’t work, consider a change in your structure.
