The difference between the two Koreas is the direction each took economically but they're the same people.
I doubt any African leadership can compare to even the North.

I hope this posts helps save lives and Uber Nigeria @Uber should deeply consider this use case to insure dispatch riders.

I honestly could not be more thankful for Emergency Response Africa for doing a great job with this situation and great to see insurance working AXA Mansard

For context, he suffered a leg fracture, concussion, and a bleeding ear from the impact. He was very lucky as it could've been so much worse. He got discharged the next day and got better when I checked on him about a week past the incident.

The morale of the story:
1. When things like these happen, check the policies/rules of your service provider. Most structured businesses don't like liability and assure as much as they can.
2. Sometimes, just lead with kindness. Nigeria needs a lot of it right now.

I doubt it would be expensive for them to and there are many insurance/health partnerships to make this happen. If the business economics really has to, the consumer can take a portion of that assurance responsibility for the rider because after all, it is for their convinience.

But the truth is, healthcare in Nigeria is much more affordable than many other countries. And sometimes a little goes a long way. Uber Nigeria should not just insure *generally* but also make available emergency health benefits, especially for dispatch riders due to the risks.

I know for the average Nigerian, paying hospital bills upfront for a stranger is not easy. This rider (and I'm sure many others) in similar situations would not have gotten the help they needed, and they provide so much value and convinience to customers.

Regardless of the reimbursement, I would've still done what I did anyways. But I think many people are not aware of the little of the working systems that actually works and there needs to be widespread information about some of these things.

But something important here is at play: Uber has insurance on every rider and driver, and I kept receipts of all the expenses I made and asked for reimbursement. It took some time and LOTS of emails, but within 3 months, I got my reimbursement back.

No one actually knew how to help him. First thing I did was message Emergency Response Africa on whatsapp. They got an ambulance to him within 10 min. I did have to pay upfront. The hospital they took him to also charged upfront. I didn't mind paying the cost because I could afford to.

When I was in Lagos last December, I sent an Uber dispatch rider to drop off something. The order was taking too long to get to the recipient. After 3 hours I had to call. Unfortunately, the rider got into a hit and run accident, and for 3 hours, this young man was in pain.
