🚨 1/ #NewInvestigation and #thread 🧵 As part of our #NigeriaDemocracyDeferred series, Center for Collaborative Investigative Journalism, together with 20 journalists, has investigated the '23 🇳🇬 presidential election. Our deep dive into the #data reveals violence and irregularities that impacted voter participation.
Center for Collaborative Investigative Journalism 2/ We reviewed thousands of documents from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) IREV portal, detailing reports from polling stations across #Nigeria. We extracted data that showed over 2,000 polling units were affected by violence or irregularities.
Center for Collaborative Investigative Journalism 3/ Our data team at Center for Collaborative Investigative Journalism used tools like #python, MuckRock's DocumentCloud and #Pinpoint, Google 's #AI-powered tool, to analyze thousands of documents. We decoded handwritten notes and uncovered critical details on election disruptions across the country.
