Philip Downey used data from the RASC’s Robotic Telescope in California to create this very detailed image of the Elephant Trunk nebula. The ‘trunk’ is a complicated knot in the large nebula known as IC 1396. Stars are likely forming inside these clouds of gas and dust.

Our first meeting of the year will be on January 19 at Heartland Forest in Niagara Falls. Beginners will have their session at 6 p.m. The general meeting will start at 7. If it’s clear, maybe we’ll set up some telescopes to look at Mars, Jupiter and Orion. #astronomy
