I love it. If we can agree Zirp was necessary & sufficient for the onset of the trend, is Zirp required for sustained maintenance?

I am recruiting graduate students, postdocs, and research staff. The future of vascular physiology research is bright, and I'm excited to fill the space with amazing people & discoveries.

I think this is my new favorite African livestream. Currently two lions playing as a rhino dozes nearby. youtube.com/watch?v=fZ6mUU…

We posted a new preprint (biorxiv.org/content/10.110…). We've been thinking about how to characterize TF function. One challenge is that function and occupancy are difficult to disentangle. We use a simple model and a simple system to test how promoter features change function.

Tried to express and purify your own Tn5 transposase only to run into stability or activity issues? Our new biorxiv preprint describes OpenTn5: a robust, high-yield protocol for producing a stable pG-Tn5 transposase fusion. Spearheaded by Jan Soroczynski. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

The best clickbait is google images molecular clickbait. How else do you read a calcium signaling paper with a "Parabolic Flight Experimental Design" methods section. mdpi.com/2227-9059/10/1…

Fascinating study Nature Communications from Tibor Rohacs showing that phosphatidic acid can regulate PIEZO2, the mechanosensitive ion channel — and so glad to see yet another application “in the wild” of optoPLD, Reika Tei’s optogenetic membrane editor for phosphatidic acid! #lipidtime

PSA: head-to-head comparison of Psomagen Inc. and plasmidsaurus whole-plasmid sequencing. 🦕🏆4:0 Context: sent 8 minipreps to Psomagen, 5 out 8 "failed". Got an unhelpful sermon about the need to correctly guess the size of the plasmid. Sent 4 "failures" to 🦕, all 4 sequenced.

NYC's public college system paid Oracle ~$600M to build our course management portal. It's built on top of Oracle's PeopleSoft suite, which they refused to customize without an extra $400M (to hit $1B). New Yorkers got the image below and pay $5M+ / year for *hosting*.

It was a dark time in the pre-Benchling era in my "ecosystem." Worth noting that people who say this exist. Long live Benchling and props to their VCs.

Excellent example of the core issue I was trying to get at wrt "virtual cells" - optimizing a prediction objective will not necessarily provide an accurate representation of physical or biological phenomena. It's extremely important to be very clear about this. 1/
