The Calcium Sensing Receptor (CaSR) is known to couple to multiple G-proteins. Here is the structural basis how: nature.com/articles/s4158…

Membrane tension is hard to measure, as you need to know the radius of the membrane to calculate it from the applied pressure (Laplace’s law). This paper uses patch clamp and imaging to quantify membrane tension dependence of TRAAK and TREK K+ channels. nature.com/articles/s4146…

TMC1 and TMC2 are the pore forming subunits of the mechanically activated channel responsible for hearing. What the other members of this family do is less clear. New paper shows that TMC7 is a suppressor of Piezo2 channels in primary sensory neurons. cell.com/cell-reports/f…

Very cool study that exploits our optogenetic membrane editors to help discover a role for the anionic lipid phosphatidic acid in attenuating the PIEZO2 mechanosensitive channel

Check out our latest work by Matthew Gabrielle on BioRxiv, where we identified endogenous lipid modulators that selectively inhibit Piezo2 channels over Piezo1 and modulate mechanosensitivity in mice. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Using cryo-EM, electrophysiology, and MD simulation, we determined that the binding site of econazole in TRPV5, akin to TRPV6, is constituted by L475, F472, and W495, participating in CH−π interactions.
