LHSON hosted its May 2024 Pinning & Recognition Ceremony at Sunnyvale Baptist Church on Friday afternoon. Graduating students were from the Traditional track; FastBacc track, DNP tracks, and our U.S. Army Graduate Program in Anesthesia Nursing.

Eta Gamma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) celebrated its 40th anniversary (1984-2024) on May 9 and hosted a student induction ceremony with keynote speaker, Dr. Amy K. McCarthy, plus dinner by Blue Mesa, cake for STTI members and their families, plus door prizes!

The 2024 LHSON Showcase of Research & Scholarship was hosted on May 9 by Sigma Theta Tau International, Eta Gamma Chapter. Faculty and a few students displayed published manuscripts, book chapters and poster presentations.

The LHSON hosted a Nurses Week lunch for faculty/staff. Yellow roses were given out during the morning faculty meeting to: Dean Plank in honor of Nurses Week; Elizabeth Calverley for her LHSON 15-year anniv.; outgoing Faculty Chair, Dr. Powell and incoming Dr. Katy Vogelaar.

Yesterday the LHSON hosted a Spring Meet & Greet reception and short program at The Mark & Paula Hurd Welcome Center at BU-Waco for the LHSON Central Texas Nursing Alumni. The group enjoyed nostalgic Dr Pepper Floats while visiting with fellow LHSON alums, faculty and students.

Offering some comfort to students during finals week, the LHSON invited therapy dogs to stop by. Students enjoyed petting these sweet furry friends to ease their stress between finals.

Early on Monday morning volunteers of Parent Engagement at the LHSON hosted the most popular event of the year, 'Breakfast Before Finals' for students. There was lots of wonderful food to help give students energy to get through their finals!

The LHSON welcomed the 2024-25 FastBacc cohort on Friday, May 3 for orientation to prepare for starting classes in less than 10 days! This is the 16th year of the FastBacc track, a 12-month accelerated post-baccalaureate BSN program.

On Thursday, the LHSON welcomed a visiting faculty member, Dr. Julia Terry, from Swansea University, in Wales, UK. She gave a presentation and shared her desire to continue our partnership which started in 2001 when Dr. Lyn Prater took her first study abroad students there.

On May 1, the LHSON pre-nursing office at BU-Waco and the FNA hosted a Pre-Nursing End-of-Year 'Send Off' party at the SUB Bowling Alley. All pre-nursing students were invited to celebrate their accomplishments and upcoming move to Dallas in the fall to start nursing school.

Follow up to yesterday's NMDP registry to support 4-year-old Elliott's need for a donor match for a blood stem cell transplant, Dr. Beth Hultquist delivered 'get well' signs to her mom, Lauren Walker, that our students signed yesterday. She was so grateful.

LHSON along with the Bears for the Cure and MSNA hosted a swab donor event for the National Marrow Donor Program registry to honor LHSON alum Lauren Walker and support her 4-year-old daughter Elliott who is looking for a donor. bethematch.org
