It is true that tall buildings have surged massively in the past decade or so and at the same time the housing crisis has catastrophically deepened... yet will a public poll on every tower really make any difference? 🏙️architectsjournal.co.uk/news/thinktank…

City of London Chris Skidmore Even Lizz Truss would wince at this level of hutzpah given the City of London's 'position' is that there is no climate emergency!

BarbicanQuarterAction The Guardian Adding this / from the archive:

The amount of construction waste in the alone is distressing & apparently very little is being done to reduce it. And we’re just talking about *skips* here !

Then there’s all the demolition-related waste ..

Hope Michael Gove is paying heed to pleas to call-in plans to demolish historic architecture & cultural space and replace with massive tower blocks. No active listening to the community. No understanding of short-term carbon impact. Charles Saumarez Smith The Critic BarbicanQuarterAction

Interesting exchange at CoL's Court of Common Council meeting earlier this week, in which Deputy Marianne Fredericks asks about 'curtailing' of questions following London Wall West meeting. From c. 43 mins. youtube.com/watch?v=ISUMLy…

📑 Both parties have debuffs, P&M have the COI (until August 2024) and the City dragon has Article 31 (until Gove does something); P&M are armed with a 30 inch beam compass and T square respectively. Give architects big scary tools again

How did a plan to develop the site of the Museum of London so rapidly devolve from a shining concert hall into plans for looming, soulless tower blocks Charles Saumarez Smith on the story of London Wall West thecritic.co.uk/a-wilting-wall…

Aldersgate Ward City of London BarbicanQuarterAction The chairman Shravan Joshi didn’t allow a debate on merits as a motion was brought forward by Brian Mooney CC and Henry Pollard CC to go to a vote post questions to officers, applicant and objectors. Is this legally allowed? How does City of London get away with this?
