Big personal news time: so excited to share that my lab opens at Gladstone Institutes UC San Francisco this September! The central theme of our group will be to understand the epigenomic mechanisms that govern cellular plasticity in normal physiology and disease, with a focus on the heart.

Two new pre-prints out today from Srivastava lab where we apply single cell chromatin accessibility and transcriptomics to define mechanisms underlying congenital heart defects arising from genetic and environmental perturbations, respectively.

No immigrant on a visa is never not thinking of their status. Not while running experiments, writing papers, or giving talks. They have missed weddings, births, and deaths of family back home. This is the correspondence required for gaining permanent residency as a scientist.

With a typical chelonian heart, leatherback turtles have considerable capacity for cardiac shunting. I always thought their high metabolism would be associated with pressure separation. But, the large heart may provide for high stroke volumes. DOI: 10.1111/joa.13670

Ever wonder what the best in vitro model is for your neuro research? We do all the time. So we are crowd sourcing cellular model characterization. You send cells, we do bulk ATAC and RNA-seq, and give you the data back for free. Please RT! If interested - forms.gle/1RbUGL4NkRpbj6…

In discussions of causality, it is customary to raise the rhetorical question 'did the egg originate prior to the chicken?'. Luckily, natural sciences offers help! Animals laid eggs much millions of years before birds evolved, so the egg came before the chicken. HAPPY EAASTER!̊l
