Yes students need rules, but even more so they need routines, boundaries, high expectations, and responsibilities. The first doesn't require relationships just enforcement, but the rest depend on a strong relationship to be effective.

There’s a whole bunch of stuff that our students are gonna be thinking about tomorrow, other than our lesson. This doesn’t mean that we don’t teach our hearts out... but it means that we ought to be patient; we ought to be empathetic; and we ought to keep things in perspective.

My daughter had talked for several years about how much she loved her 5th grade teacher. When I finally asked her what she liked about that teacher, this was her response: “She liked US!” So simple… yet so profound. Kids gravitate to the teachers that like them.

Students had a lot of fun today trying to figure out the answer to “What’s that Wednesday?” Only two groups guessed correctly- the seeds of a bell pepper. Berry Principals

For good classroom management: 1) Know your students 2) Try very hard to like your students 3) Decide what expectations you really care about 4) Enforce those expectations from the jump

Students reviewed latitude and longitude by picking out locations relevant to their own life. They will quiz classmates on Wednesday not only to practice location but to learn about one another! Berry Principals

Today students did a different work out for every letter of their name. They had five minutes to complete. This led to our conversation about stamina! We connected workout stamina to reading stamina! This is in one of my top five lessons for sure! Lebanon City Schools Berry Principals
