Each year, an engineer and a glaciologist (me!) travel out to the 13 GPS stations across the Brunt to service and raise them up so they don't get buried. This is the Adios that we raised last year that is now beginning its journey into the Weddell Sea on board A83.

British Antarctic Survey 🐧 It will be interesting to see if the calving has impacted the newly re-formed Halley Bay emperor penguin colony. It had relocated on the edge of the Halloween crack. This will have an impact on the sea ice.

Please tell me we're going to call it the . Using the normal nomenclature ( ) is so dull. This is the third large berg to come off the Brunt in three years. The decision of British Antarctic Survey 🐧 to move Halley base in 2016/17 looks ever smarter. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

There's one more reason to add to the list of reasons why sea ice is important.
Sea ice is less salty than the water it forms from. The increased concentration of salt in the cold residual water makes it dense, and it is critical to driving the Antarctic overturning circulation.

As the SeoulSummit begins today, why not take a quick dive into how is being used by our teams for good in the Arctic?

From sea ice prediction to wildlife conservation, AI is already making a positive impact in our work.
