I’ve created this video to help people understand the financial distress GP practices are under. Please share widely to create awareness and start conversations about how we save General Practice. #TeamGP #NHSCrisis

GP practices face unsustainable pressure, with more GPs working less than full time to reduce stress, ill-health & burnout. In reality, however, a 'part time' GP works more hours than they're paid to ensure their patients are seen and the paperwork is done bma.org.uk/advice-and-sup…

Here’s a snapshot of just 20 letters rec’d this afternoon from hospital & other NHS colleagues Half need us to do something eg refer, order investigations, send info back It’s not just GP time, but admin & secretarial too - when 95% staff are in hospitals

Work being passed to the only area of the NHS with fewer staff by all the areas with more staff - this is why GPs are struggling GPs know it’s not easy in hospitals but spare a thought for GP colleagues before passing work that can and should be done in hospital Katie Bramall-Stainer

2 hours of my time yesterday was spent going through rejected referrals because a local hospital has refused to accept patient choice.

A post on unfunded, and underfunded work in primary care. Last year I did some analysis on LES schemes and freebies practices do, it wasn't exhaustive. 10 non-core things like phlebotomy, ECG, B12 etc that aren't funded in our area. I revisited it today, some rough searches

repeated appointments with a range of clinicians - fragmented care, some duplication and some people falling thro' the cracks.

Dr Mike This will almost certainly result in a decline in the UK public’s life expectancy. The continuity and connection that comes from seeing patients for both acute and chronic conditions is what enables us to pick up what’s actually happening in the background causing the patient’s

During a trial of new acuity measures at 17 A&E sites, NHSE found the proportion of patients with low acuity was just 4%, when it had expected the figure to be between 20- 40% (🤷🏻‍♂️no clue at NHSE) Low acuity cases are those which could often be seen by less specialist services

It is useful that extra data is now being collected. But the conclusion that diverting patients from A&E is a useless, wasteful strategy has long been obvious even without the new data.

Out of interest, #GPTwitter, What proportion of your patient demand is driven by the failure of care for those ‘patients in purgatory’?

NHS Digital data underestimates hours GPs work A ‘session’ measured as 4hrs 10mins suggests a GP doing 6 = 25hrs/wk In reality much longer See prucomm.ac.uk/assets/uploads… Also bjgp.org/content/early/…
