Still images of the 2CY (1st-sum) Purple Heron on Meare Heath this morning: standing tall a jpeg image and side on a video still frame. There should be better than these as others had an expensive camera/lens.

"One way or another, I'm gonna find ya" 🎶 📸 A big thank you to Andrew Kirby for these fabulous action shots of 'Blondie', the pale-coloured marsh harrier that fledged from Westhay last year, who has since been causing quite the commotion at Catcott.

It's World Otter Day! 🦦 They aren't just adorable! Otters are crucial to the health of freshwater ecosystems — without them, their prey populations would eventually become over abundant, in turn causing destruction of wetland vegetation further down the food chain.

A huge increase in Waders at Catcott this afternoon, our long staying Common Redshank (presumably a singleton)was joined by two Green S'Pipers. It took an hour to get them to sit together to have their Photo taken! The Lapwing as usual wasn't helping, chased them off regularly!

Some success at Catcott Lows yesterday at the third attempt, subjected to Carrion Crow predation Twice, but terribly exposed, Looks like there may be a possibility of a second arrival from this nest.

You have heard of Water Vole, now meet Water MOLE! At Catcott this afternoon a lifer for me, a swimming Mole.covered at least 30 yards at great speed see its wake, aided by it's massive fore feet, like a demented paddle steamer. Never even heard of one seen doing this before.

It's the first day of summer, and that means DRAGONFLIES! 💕 By mid-summer, you’ll likely see them zooming around wetlands (like Westhay Moor) in search of food, mates, and the perfect spot to land. ✍️ Have you spotted any dragonflies yet? Let us know!
