I got my late in life #autism diagnosis after a very challenging #perimenopause .
For the last 2.5 years I’ve been researching #Autistic experiences of #menopause with AutMenopause and I’m delighted that our first paper has been published by Autism Journal

People with eating disorders who are not responding to treatment are NOT being difficult but we need to see what other treatments we can try.

With other illnesses we would try other avenues without giving up so quickly so why aren’t we doing that with eating disorders?

Not all of us get better.

Having care to stop us getting worse matters hugely.

They relied on others.
They did it anyway at the expense of their health.
They went without.
They spent all their energy on doing it so had none left for life.
They suffered more.
They died early.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). The industry is trying to get some more evidence of it 'working'.

1. We are not ‘treatment resistant’ or ‘non-compliant’, we just need a different approach to care and reasonable adjustments to be made to accommodate our neurodivergence. 🙏

Society: “Reach out if you’re struggling!”

Person: “I’m really struggling and am in crisis, I need support”

Society: “Erm… have you had a bath? Tried going for a walk? A cup of tea perhaps?”

Borderline personality disorder as a label is and always has been an excuse for neglect, abuse, trauma and neurodivergence denial and hate.

It should be an embarrassment to anyone interested in a humane mental health system.

Can’t stop thinking about how inherently weird it is that Simon Baron Cohen wants to dissect a dead autistic girls diary for reasons autistic girls struggle in schools instead of talking to autistic women and girls and actually investigating the school system.

I'm all for reducing coercive practice but this trend in mental health services to place all responsibility on patients is dangerous and heartless. Expecting people who are scared, ambivalent, or just too unwell to know they are unwell to not only advocate for their own care 1/8
