Pleading with y’all to consider relocating to that Other (now butterfly) Place (invite codes no longer needed) because I miss learning from you. Now, back to blocking advertisements, which I do every time I visit

19thNews is a bright spot in the current media hellscape; highly recommend subscribing to their newsletter instead of relying on tweets or skeets (yes you can even donate 19thnews too, since it’s a non-profit)

Recently read Zernike’s excellent book, the Exceptions, on insidious discrimination against women in science so found this analysis of recent targeting of women leading US universities to be timely and insightful ⬇️ (so valuable that I’m even here briefly) nytimes.com/2024/01/28/us/…

Greg is right. IF the CBS News story is true (and I'm hearing some reports that White House officials are denying it, though haven't seen anything official), then the White House is willing to say Donald Trump was right and to accept the worst anti-immigrant laws in generations.

Alright, let me do a 🧵on why this is such a terrible idea, and why this wouldn't solve a thing.

First thing's first: the caveat. The White House says that they have not 'signed off' on anything—a conspicuous non-denial denial, since that's not really what Camilo Montoya-Galvez said.

THREE days of sick leave? That's just not enough.
The Law360 newsroom walked out today after the company refused to give meaningful responses to many of our proposals after more than a year of bargaining on a new contract. Don't cross the digital picket line.

US based colleagues, please follow the link to send a message to your senators. I rarely contact my representatives but gutting asylum to placate the ultra-right wing faction that will never ever be satisfied is irresponsible — and dumb politics

Right now, there is a risk that your senators and the White House will accept devastating changes to the U.S. asylum process and to our humanitarian parole programs. Please contact them to tell them that a fair path to asylum is nonnegotiable. immigrationjustice.quorum.us/campaign/54094

Everything I’ve heard over the last 24 hours supports the reports that the White House has agreed in principle to what could be the most anti-immigrant and anti-asylum legislation in almost 30 years.

This is a moment of crisis for immigrant rights. The time to act is now.
