The first MLB game is played indoors at the newly built Astrodome between the NY Yankees and Houston Astros. Mickey Mantle was the first hitter and would later hit a home run, however the Astros won the exhibition game 2-1 in 12 innings, April 9, 1965.

Groundbreaking ceremony for the Houston Astrodome, 1962. The men have pistols in their hands because the baseball team that the dome was to host was called the Colt 45s. It was originally called the "Harris County Domed Stadium." The base of the structure covers 9.14 acres.
