[This is part 2 of my series on tensor calculus, differential geometry, etc.] These blobs are called "tensors", and the "rank" of a tensor represents how many legs it has. Here's a rank-4 tensor with two contravariant indices (inputs) and two covariant indices (outputs). (1/11)

I've really enjoyed reading this study looking on MRI driven dynamos in black hole accretion disks (arxiv.org/abs/2311.00034). I'd like to nominate Fig.12, Astro Plot of the Week: ☑ great choice of colour palette, ☑ and nicely highlights the different timescales in the problem.

🚨Paper day🚨 Taking control of compressible modes: bulk viscosity and the turbulent dynamo — arxiv.org/abs/2312.03984 Me, Christoph Federrath, Neco Kriel, Justin Hew (he/him) and Amitava Bhattacharjee explore the nature of fluid viscosity in the dynamo! A 🧵 below👇

I wish they'd hurry up already and adapt David J. Griffiths' best seller 'Introduction to Electrodynamics' to the screen!

"The larger one’s ignorance, the stronger the magnetic fields." – Lodewijk Woltjer I present you with a close-up from one of my simulations, diving into the chaotic world of turbulent plasma in the intracluster medium!

I wrote some code to compute LICs (a way to visualise vector fields), and you know what, I think its working pretty well if you ask me!

Did you wish for a fast and simple LIC code this Christmas? Well, look no further! I wrote one you can have for free, and a week early! Happy holidays! 🎄🎅 github.com/AstroKriel/lin…

New study in preprint. In this study we test if supernova-driven turbulence, a large component of the turbulence in our Galaxy, resembles classical Kolmogorov-style turbulence, as it is regularly assumed. It does not. arxiv.org/abs/2501.09855
