I love the Brazilian cover of my book! After the Taliban takeover I went to explore. Few traces are left of the promises to the Afghans, it's a winners take all - told through the story of Bashir - the Taliban commander, Jamila Afghani - the activist and Ariana - who lost it all.

My review of two books examining what went wrong in Afghanistan: Kabul, Final Call by Laurie Bristow & The Afghans by Åsne Seierstad. Bristow - "a quietly heroic figure" -was UK ambassador in summer 2021 as Kabul fell to the Taliban. Both titles excellent theguardian.com/books/article/…

My book "The Afghans" is just out in the UK. Amanpour at CNN invited me to talk about it, the hardship Afghan Women live through, and how the Taliban rule as ancient despots in modern time. Check out the interview here: cnn.com/2024/06/03/tv/…

Just finished "The Afghans" by brilliant Åsne Seierstad. Much touched by the chapter in which Ariana fends off her family’s pressure to marry—getting strength by listening to Kate Bush and watching Stranger Things. Keep running, Ariana! youtube.com/watch?v=bV0RAc…
