After a short hiatus, I'm teaching torts again at IUMaurerLaw this Fall. I returned to the student evals from the last course & found this absolute gem. Probably my favorite eval ever: "Blast off with Asaf Lubin on another adventure to the wacky & wonderful world of torts."

It’s been a joy working as the Co-Chair of the Junior Int’l Law Scholars Association (JILSA). While my tenure runs until the end of 2024—including a JILSA meeting at IUMaurerLaw in Dec—I already know growing the org alongside Melissa Stewart would be the thing I’m proudest of!

Both in my role as Incoming-Chair of AALS Internet and Computer Law Section & as a member of the Organizing Committee of the Law & Tech Workshop, I invite everyone to submit papers for the 2024 Fall Season & the special works-in-progress session in San Francisco in January!

If you, like me, are interested in digital rights protection in armed conflict, you should read ISMLLW’s Military Law & Law of War Review #MLLWR’s new issue which includes an excellent symposium on biometrics based on a NATO CCDCOE convening on the subject! elgaronline.com/view/journals/…

Significant development today at the UN with the adoption of the cybercrime convention. Next is a vote at the UNGA & then forty ratifications needed before it enters into force. The convention is filled with textual levers that could be pulled to advance abusive surveillance.

Nothing to see here.. just a IUMaurerLaw professor dressed in a taco costume teaching 1L torts students about legal line-drawing, interpretation, and the function of precedent using the tormenting question of whether a taco is a sandwich.

Just so we’re clear: suing a cybersecurity researcher under theories of negligence & conversion for revealing the true scope & magnitude of a data breach has everything to do with freedom of speech and whistleblowing, despite what the city’s attorney tries to argue here.
