My thoughts on this week's study that made the media with "a third of UK teenage vapers will go on to smoke": arielleselyaphd.substack.com/p/will-third-o…

"This study would have really benefited from preregistration because the results are a Rorschach test that can be interpreted in opposite ways to support either gateway or common liability."

New interview 👇 with Clearing the Air on my eye-opening moment into tobacco harm reduction, my experience in academia, and why I left. Thanks Peter Beckett !

Martin C Arielle Selya Clearing the Air In Australia, we dont have new smokers who have never smoked but tried vaping. Instead, we have former smokers who quit smoking by using vapes. However, when the government restricted their option to vape, these individuals returned to smoking.

One of the things I enjoy most about running Clearing the Air is the great interviews I get to do with people who have so much to teach me. Particularly enjoyed this one with Arielle Selya, who tells us how the #vaping gateway theory isn't supported by the data.

Part 8 of Roberto Sussman 's incredibly informative Substack posts on e-cigarette aerosol: "secondhand" or environmental aerosol. The key points for me (hope I understood them correctly): robertosussman.substack.com/p/a-full-guide…

Arielle Selya The text in the last paragraph should read "vaping or smoking machines can't be used to test exhaled e-cigarette aerosol because they cannot reproduce interactions of inhaled aerosol in human respiratory tracts"

Roberto Sussman (@robertosussman) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Arielle Selya Key message: inhaled aerosol undergoes physical changes in humid environment in respiratory tracts, 90% of the aerosol is retained, exhaled aerosol is diluted & goes from this environment to a cold/dry one. This explains their difference.
