On this day, in 1984, there were a series of racist attacks in the Upton Park & Forest Gate areas of Newham including a vicious attack on a disabled boy with a hammer.

Asian youth fought back and 7 were later arrested. The Newham 7 Defence Campaign was set up a few months later.
